Live-in care & motor neurone disease

Life is often overwhelming when you’re facing motor neurone disease (MND), whether it’s affecting you or someone you love.

While you’re finding your way through the emotions, you’re probably also thinking about the practical aspects of care. How will the condition progress and what support will be necessary?

If you’re planning ahead for future care needs, this is a very positive step. We can work with your NHS team to tailor a plan that reflects your individual needs and preferences.

We can also step in quickly if you need extra help urgently.

At every stage, there may be more options than you think, and live-in MND care could help you stay in your own home with the right support.

Vitality Live In Care - Live-In Care and MND

If you’re part of a couple, live-in care can help you stay together in the same home.

Help at home with motor neurone disease (MND)

Your Vitality live-in carer (we call them Personal Assistants) is trained to a high standard. They understand the effects of MND such as weak muscles, difficulties with eating and talking, or emotional and mental changes.

They also know that everyone with MND is an individual who may be affected differently and deserves kindness and respect at all times.

For anyone living with MND – and their loved ones – some days can feel very lonely. The companionship of your Personal Assistant is a comfort at times like that.

On the practical side, they can help with personal care and taking your medications. Your Personal Assistant can also do housework, shopping, and laundry. They can prepare suitable meals and help at the table, too.

When you want to get out and about, your Personal Assistant is there to help. You can also use our Vitality Assist service, which offers a fleet of comfortable and accessible vehicles that can handle your mobility equipment with ease.

Your MND care team

A private GP service is always included at no extra cost when you have Vitality live-in care. At the start, your private GP will come to see you at home. They’ll listen and take plenty of time getting to know you. They’ll make sure you have an up-to-date care plan that helps everyone on your team understand what you want.

Your GP is always available to help with any concerns you may have. Your Personal Assistant can consult them regarding your care and so can your family, if you wish.

In addition, our understanding and qualified nurses can add to your care at home when needed.

Your Vitality live-in team will always work with your usual GP, specialist MND team, and palliative care service. Our smart technology helps everyone on your Vitality live-in team share information so your care is consistent. You can also access this information, and so can family members or a guardian.

With your permission, we can also use our smart technology to exchange information with your NHS GP.

With MND, things change over time, and we can bring in different members of our team with the right skills as required.

Wherever you are on this path, we are all there to make sure you have the best care possible and to support you and your family. We are with you all the way.
