A spinal cord injury (SCI) changes your life overnight, while coming back from it takes time and support.
We’re here to help you live the life you want, in your own home. Whether you are first coming home from hospital, facing some changes in your circumstances, or getting that bit older, we’re ready to support you at every stage.
Live-in care may be the answer you’re looking for to stay independent, reach your life goals, and concentrate on the relationships that matter most to you.
If you’re part of a couple, live-in care can help you stay together in the same home.
Help at home with spinal cord injury (SCI)
Your Vitality live-in carer (we call them Personal Assistants) is trained to a high standard. They understand that everyday routines such as skin care, exercise, and bladder and bowel care are essential for your health and wellbeing.
They also know that everyone with an SCI is an individual who may be affected differently, deserving dignity and respect at all times.
On the practical side, they can help with personal care, mobility and positioning. Your Personal Assistant can also pitch in with the housework, shopping and laundry. They can prepare meals and help at the table, too.
You’ll find getting out and about so much easier, with your Personal Assistant there to help. You may also choose to use our Vitality Assist service, which offers a fleet of accessible vehicles that will take you to your destination in comfort and with ease.
Your SCI care team
When you have Vitality live-in care, a private GP service is always included at no extra cost. To get off to a great start, your private GP will come to see you at home. They’ll really listen and get to know you.
Your private GP will then make sure you have an up-to-date care and lifestyle plan that suits you perfectly.
Your GP is always available to help with any concerns that come up. They can advise you and also your partner or family, if you wish. Your Personal Assistant can also get in touch with your private GP for advice 24/7.
In addition, our understanding and qualified nurses can add to your care at home when needed.
Your Vitality live-in care team will always work with your usual GP and SCI centre. Our smart technology helps everyone on your Vitality live-in team share information so your care is consistent and in line with your wishes. You can also access this information, and so can family members or a guardian if you want this.
In addition, with your permission we can use this technology to exchange information directly with your NHS GP, so we’re always on the same page.
